The Catholic Hmong Community of Fresno came together this last week to celebrate and ring in the Hmong New Year. This all-day special event started with Mass celebrated by Bishop Brennan assisted by several Diocesan clergy. A large assembly of over 500 was in attendance. After the liturgy, a delightful program consisting of traditional cultural dances, inspirational videos, Kung Fu demonstration, “Paj Huam” poetry recitation / interpretation, Christmas song performances, and a delicious meal was enjoyed by many. During the day’s festivities, Bishop Brennan was presented with a special gift of a striking traditional Hmong vest.
For 2025, the Catholic Hmong Community of Fresno is planning several ongoing gatherings to strengthen ties of family and fellowship under the joint scripture themes of “Peace Be With You - Be Not Afraid - & Go Forth.” This event was organized by dedicated leaders within the Fresno Catholic Hmong Community including Kao Vang, Blong Thao, and Long Her and spiritually encouraged by the Diocese’s four local Deacons from Our Lady of Victory & St. Mary, Queen of the Apostles – William Yang, Chang Her, Naova Thao, and Nai Her.
