The Catechetical Corner: One Life LA 2024

On Saturday, January 20, 2024, Eli Medina, our Youth /Young Adults Ministry Coordinator, and I will have the opportunity to coordinate and take a group of parishioners from around our diocese to the event of One Life LA in Los Angeles on behalf of the Pastoral Center once again.

The reason we make the trip to Los Angeles for this event is because of the participation of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, which our Diocese is under, and of course, why our bishops participate along with other clergy, religious and laity from the other dioceses under the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

One Life LA's mission is to unite communities and inspire positive action through this annual event that promotes the beauty and dignity of every human life from conception to natural death.

In 2015, One Life LA began in Los Angeles as a one-day event with the purpose of starting a movement of love and mercy throughout the community. Over the years, tens of thousands of people have gathered in downtown Los Angeles to witness the beauty and dignity of every human life.

One Life LA partners with community-based organizations in Southern California that provide support to pregnant women, immigrants, and refugees, the homeless, survivors of human trafficking, the elderly, the disabled and the dying, and help foster children find a forever home. With this commitment to service, they want participants to see this event not only as a one-day walk and festival, but as a call to build their communities and serve those in need.

This family-friendly event begins with a solidarity walk through downtown Los Angeles, and ends with a festival featuring live music, food trucks, entertainment, and speakers.

The speakers at this event share powerful testimonies of life. Some tell how they have overcome obstacles and give some advice on how we can all join the fight to help others. These stories inspire and mobilize thousands of people to do what they can every day to help those in need.

It was great seeing other parishes from our diocese at this event in 2023 as I got the opportunity to interact with parishioners from our diocese, some of which I had never met before. We hope that the event for 2024 will not only have more parishes joining us but that for all of those that do attend this event in Los Angeles, even if they go through their own transportation with their parish, we hope that our office here at the Pastoral Center will be notified so we can hopefully offer a small gift to all participants that represent our diocese and also discuss of a way to meet together at the event.

El Rincón Catequético: Una Vida Los Ángeles 2024

El sábado 20 de enero de 2024, Eli Medina, nuestro Coordinador del Ministerio de Jóvenes / Jóvenes Adulos, y yo tendremos la oportunidad de coordinar y llevar a un pequeño grupo de feligreses de toda nuestra diócesis al evento de Una Vida Los Ángeles por medio del Centro Pastoral una vez más.

La razón por la que viajamos a Los Ángeles para este evento es por la participación de la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles, de la cual nuestra Diócesis es parte y, por supuesto, por qué nuestros obispos también participan junto con otros clérigos, religiosos y laicos de las otras diócesis bajo la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles.

La misión de Una Vida Los Ángeles es unir a las comunidades e inspirar la acción positiva a través de este evento anual que promueve la belleza y la dignidad de cada vida humana desde la concepción hasta la muerte natural.

En 2015, Una Vida Los Ángeles comenzó como un evento de un día con el propósito de iniciar un movimiento de amor y misericordia en toda la comunidad. A lo largo de los años, decenas de miles de personas se han reunido en el centro de Los Ángeles para presenciar la belleza y la dignidad de cada vida humana.

Una Vida Los Ángeles se asocia con organizaciones comunitarias en el sur de California que brindan apoyo a mujeres embarazadas, inmigrantes y refugiados, personas sin hogar, sobrevivientes de la trata de personas, ancianos, discapacitados y moribundos, y ayudan a los niños adoptivos a encontrar un hogar para siempre. Con este compromiso de servicio, quieren que los participantes vean este evento no solo como una caminata y un festival de un día, sino como un llamado a construir sus comunidades y servir a los necesitados.

Este evento familiar comienza con una caminata solidaria por el centro de Los Ángeles y termina con un festival con música en vivo, camiones de comida, entretenimiento y oradores.

Los oradores de este evento comparten poderosos testimonios de vida. Algunos cuentan cómo han superado los obstáculos y dan algunos consejos sobre cómo todos podemos unirnos a la lucha para ayudar a los demás. Estas historias inspiran y movilizan a miles de personas a hacer lo que puedan todos los días para ayudar a los necesitados.

Fue genial ver a otras parroquias de nuestra diócesis en este evento en 2023, ya que tuve la oportunidad de interactuar con feligreses de nuestra diócesis, algunos de los cuales nunca había conocido antes. Esperamos que el evento para 2024 no solo tenga más parroquias que se unan a nosotros, sino que para todos aquellos que asistan a este evento en Los Ángeles, incluso si van a través de su propio transporte con su parroquia, esperamos que nuestra oficina aquí en el Centro Pastoral sea notificada para que podamos ofrecer un pequeño regalo a todos los participantes que representan a nuestra diócesis y también dialogar de una manera en cómo podamos juntarnos ya estando en Los Ángeles.
